Postcard to Ghassan, 2024

It was the summer of 1972 when Ghassan Kanafani, spokesman of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, climbed into his gray Austin 1100. Accompanied by his 17-year-old niece, Lamis, he started the ignition and the two were instantly obliterated, shaking the entire suburban Beirut neighborhood. It turned out that, hidden in the right front fender, buried under 5 kilos of plastic, a 3 kilo hand grenade had been planted and wired to the ignition to serve as a detonator by the Israeli national intelligence agency, Mossad. Several other PFLP leaders among with the general public were forced to watch this star author and journalist, along with his collateral niece, disintegrate beyond recognition. Instant death.
